January 2014 Birchbox Man

Happy (almost) New Year!  Birchbox Man got an early start sending out the 2014 boxes.

Here is what was in store for D:

American Crew Alternator (sample value: $1.36, full size: $15)
This is a styler that is meant to be used to initially style hair and then be reapplied later in the day if needed.  It supposedly has "medium hold."  Hair products don't get a lot of love around here.  D isn't too excited about this one.

Ernest Supplies Soap-Free Gel Face Wash (sample value: $1.85, full size: $18.50)
Another cool sample with a nozzle.  This cleanser is moisture rich and has a hydrating blend of citrus.  D likes citrus scents and I think this will be great for traveling. 

MenScience Androceuticals Post-Shave Repair (sample value: $15, full size: $30)
This facial spray tons, heals, and hydrates.  It is also supposed to be extra calming for the skin post-shaving.  D has agreed to give this a try.

Reviver Dry Deodorant Wipes (sample value: $3, full size: $17.99)
These wipes are to be used to get rid of smells in clothing or hair after a night in a smokey bar or a sweaty day.  I don't know if D will have a use for this, so I think I may keep it in my gym back for days I have errands to run after a workout. 

Tommy John 360 Sport Trunks (full size! - $31)
These boxer briefs wick away moisture while working out AND they have a super cool pocket to keep top secret items.  This is D's favorite item in the box.

This box has a great value of ~$52. The beauty samples in this months box will require some convincing to get D to try them, but at least he got a great pair of underwear!

December 2013 Birchbox Man

D's December Birchbox Man box arrived just in time to get the holiday spirit started!  The theme is "#manoftheyear" and suggests December is a great time to celebrate a personal highlight reel.  I love this idea!

Birchbox Man is a men's lifestyle box for $20/month that includes both grooming and lifestyle items.  It's a larger box than the women's version, but still contains a nice variety of surprises.

Here is D's December box!

Adrenaline Junkie Energizing Scrub by Billy Jealousy (sample value: $3)
This body scrub has an invigorating peppermint smell.  It's meant to be used on both face and body.  D says "It's cool and smells nice."

Texture Paste by GO247 (sample value: ~$4?)
I'm estimating the size of this sample.  This product claims to add definition and texture without any stiffness.  It can be used on damp or dry hair.  D says he "doesn't really like texture paste."  Maybe I can still convince him to try it out...

All-In-One Moisturizer by Mereadesso (sample value: $28)
This is a very fancy one step approach to skin care.  It serves as a toner, moisturizer, and under-eye cream.  It's meant to be used twice a day.  I enjoy using all in one products and I think D will like this too.  D says he "likes the stuff he already uses."  I'm going to have to convince him on this one too.  I'm also glad there is a re-sealable nozzle on the back of the sample so it won't go to waste.

Liquid Aftershave Cream by Proraso (sample value: $3.75)
This cream has witch hazel and eucalyptus to calm the skin.  D says "it smells nice but I already have lotion."  Clearly I'm going to need to do some work on D to get him to fully appreciate the fun of Birchboxes.

Knit Watchman's Hat (value: $25)
This is the winner of the box!  D says "I like it."  It's already gotten use on this cool day.  :-)

Speakeasy Candle by Votivo (value: ?)
This is a bonus item in the box and has a "bold scent with a hint of rum and bourbon."  It's a small candle compared to last month's travel candle.  D says "this is stupid but nice" (we seem to have a lot of candles right now).

The overall value of this box is ~$64.  A great value if I can convince D to try everything out.  I guess at the very least the hat being a success makes it worth the price paid.  It will be interesting to see how D's feelings toward Birchbox Man evolve over the coming months.  Any suggestions?  ;-)

November 2013 Birchbox Man

I wanted to gift D a subscription to Birchbox Man for Christmas since he always comments on how many boxes come to the apartment.  I figured the first box would arrive in December so that would be perfect.  To my surprise, the November box arrived today so D's Birchbox is now a "just because" gift instead of being one of the presents under our Christmas tree.

Birchbox Man is a men's lifestyle box for $20/month that includes both grooming and lifestyle items.  It's a larger box than the women's version.  

The November box has a theme of "More Good" and mentions its support of the Movember mustaches in support of cancer research.

Here is what arrived in D's first Birchbox Man Box!

Notting Hill by English Laundry (Sample value: $1.75, Full size: $70-$85)

This scent is citrus-y which different from what D usually wears.  I liked it. Hopefully future boxes won't all include a fragrance sample. 

Protective Matte Moisturizer by Earnest Supplies (Sample value: $3, Full size: $25)

Before even trying this product, I thought it was nice that it has a nozzle to close it and use it more than once.

Shave Cream by Proraso (Sample value: $0.66, Full size: $10)

This is a perfect size sample to take on an overnight trip.  

Pomegranate SPF 15 Natually Smooth Lip Balm by Yes To (Full size!!! $2.99)

D thinks this looks like girl lip balm.  I think its meant to be gender neutral.  D is manly enough to rock a pink chapstick, but the lip balm itself is clear.  

Transit Issue Travel Candle by Apolis (Full size!!! $30)

We like candles and this one smells great.  It's very "manly"and home-y and I think it will be nice to take with us when going on vacation or going away for a weekend.  

Overall we thought this first box was just ok.  The candle is the best item, but we would have liked to see some larger sample sizes of the other products.  What did other people get in their Birchbox Man boxes this month?
